Stimulus Spending And Job Growth: Update 17

Well, it's that time again. Time to update Obama's stimulus-driven job creation results. For the month of October, there was a net gain of 151,000 jobs. That's good news for President Obama, because there had been a string of net job losses for the last several months. August and September's job figures were also revised upwards according to the latest data from the US Dept of Labor. This meant fewer job losses in September than originally reported, and an actual net job gain for August (discounting the temporary census job losses).

Barack Obama said his stimulus package would create approximately 4 million "new" jobs over two years. In order to create 4 million jobs in 24 months, the Obama administration would have had to create approximately 166,667 jobs per month to reach his target, assuming linear job growth. That scenario is shown as violet in the following graph.

I developed a curve showing what I thought might be a more "Likely" scenario -- plotted as light blue in the following graph. As you can see from the graph, the actual trend was somewhat worse than I had predicted -- plotted as yellow and red. The trend generally followed the trajectory I had originally envisioned until about May of this year (Month 15). Obama's "Summer of Recovery" was virtually non-existent. Since May, job growth has essentially flat-lined.

Instead of having to create 166,667 new jobs per month to reach his original target of 4 million new jobs, President Obama now needs to create 1,471,000 jobs per month -- in order to make up for the 2 million jobs that were lost since the stimulus bill was signed.

According to US DOL statistics, the official unemployment rate continues to be 9.6%, because there are 14.8 million unemployed people in the United States who are actively seeking work. But there are another 2.6 million people who are only "marginally" attached to the work force because they did not seek work in the last month, and another 9.2 million people who are working part-time only because they can't find a full-time job.

I am sorry to once again report that I continue to remain unemployed. Activity has fallen off in recent weeks. I know God has a plan for me, but I continue to covet your prayers.

Hang in there, Hawkeye, I'm presently underemployed! Of course "semi-retirement" does have its perks but it certainly does drain ones savings account!

Well, the prez told 60 minutes that the overwhelming vote for conservatives was not because people don't like his policies, but because there was a lack of communication. I think that means, from what I can tell, that the breakdown in communication resulted in the fact that Obama communicated but the people didn't reply back, "Yessuh". Likewise, the unemployment rate is not due to the lack of jobs, but is due to poor communication. Obama dumped money into the system and said, "Spend" to the businesses, but the businesses didn't respond back "yessuh". Oh my, oh my. When will the great communicator learn how to listen??
Love ya,
Mary Beth

Hank,
Thanks. Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't mind being paid unemployment to stay home and work around the house. But after more than a year, I'm beginning to feel unwanted and unloved. I was positive I'd have a job by now. I'm doing my best to keep costs down. I'm certainly not hiring anyone to do something I can do myself.

(:D) Best regards...

Mary Beth,
If there was any breakdown in communication, it was (like you said) all on Obama's part. We sent the message, but he didn't understand it. An honest man might understand, but narcissists... not so much.

(:D) Best regards.

PS-- Love you too.

Nick,
You have such a way with words.

"This Non American Jack*ss is nothing, more than an old fart that is walking around in some dead witch doctor's body."

I have to remember that one.

(:D) Best regards....

Obama is stuck on socialist stupid. The new legislators will have to try to coopt the sitting Reps and Sens to do what they can to stop Obama madness and meanwhile the States will have to individually fend off these unconstitutional mandates.

Dems running in 2012 have a Scylla and Charybdis choice - turn their backs on Obamanation in hopes of retaining their seats or line up with him knowing it could be political suicide in 2012.

Every stimulus bill is just Obama taking our money (or our children's children's money) and throwing it into the wind.

God move and bring Hawkeye to his job!

It would appear that the economy is stirring, whether it be because of the recent elections or the Feds tinkering or simply the details of this complex apparatus called the American capitalist system...
Best of luck for employment, my friend. I'm itching to stop working ASAP but the same economic situation has me on the hook for another four years or so...

Mary Beth,
Actually both links worked, but the web pages were in different formats. THANKS! I loved it! Very humorous indeed.

And YES, you can use "some" html in these comments, but not much. (See the note below the comment box: "You can use some HTML tags, such as...")

(:D) Best regards...

Beerme,
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'd love to retire too, but I need health care coverage.

My COBRA is running out. If I go on my wife's plan, she will get a $5,000+ reduction in salary, plus I will have to pay $8-9,000 to cover me. I could go out and buy health care insurance on the open market for about the same price ($13-14,000) and my wife could keep her $5,000. But when I run out of unemployment benefits, how do I pay for it?

I don't qualify for Medicaid, and I'm too young to qualify for Medicare. And by the time I am old enough to qualify, Medicare benefits may be slashed drastically. Go figure.

I wouldn't mind working in order to get benefits, but nobody is hiring. I've had phone interviews and preliminary interviews, but no follow-ups. What's a person to do? ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!

(:D) Best regards...
