Tea Party - Piscataway, NJ

I attended a local Tea Party in Piscataway, NJ today at 5:00 PM in Johnson Park. Mayor Steve Lonegan was one of the main speakers. Lonegan is a Republican running for Governor against Jon Corzine and there were plenty of campaign signs in the crowd. With at least 500 people in attendance (one estimate ventured closer to 1000), Lonegan warned of "creeping socialism". He said, "The very core values of our country are under attack like never before." He also noted how New Jersey was the setting for several important battles during the American Revolution. There were a lot of signs and banners with sayings such as "Throw The Idiots Out" and "Can We Bankrupt The Country? Yes We Can."

Ron Tolles of Bridgewater, wearing clothes he typically wears to Revolutionary War re-enactments, said "I don't need a sign. My clothes are the message... I'm just a member of the militia fighting for our country." Tolles, who traces his roots to Connecticut in the 1600s, said those who attended today's events were kin to American patriots who dumped tea into Boston Harbor in 1773 to protest British taxation.

Camo,
It rained in Piscataway too, for most of the day. Fortunately it stopped in time for the event, but it was still pretty chilly and damp.

Our Tea Party last Saturday and last night were a success. No trouble at either one and the Sheriff's dept was out in force and smiling.

Nick (aka Angus),
GREAT! I'm jealous that you could go to TWO tea parties, and I could only go to ONE. Drats! Some people have all the luck...

There were some great signs out there all across the land. I saw one in Rapid City that said "Tax Congress's Salaries At 90%. That was one of my favorites.

Hawkeye, any idea as to why I have to go to the sign up link every time I want to post? All of the info is already there, but unless I go through the signup every time it says "incorrect password".

MKK,
Great idea! If we start taxing Congress at 90% maybe they will get the hint, eh??

As for your second comment, I sent you an e-mail. If you didn't get it let me know.

(:D) Best regards...

Anonymous,
Thanks for the links. I tried to post a comment at one of the web pages with a link to my blog. I didn't see it show up after I hit "submit", so I don't know if they got it or not. I tried anyway.

(:D) Best regards...
