The Peace of Christianity & Islam

Some thoughts on the two great "Religions of Peace"...

Jesus said: You have heard that it was said to the men of old, 'You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.' --Matthew 5:21

Mohammed said: And do not kill any one whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause. -- Koran 17:33

Jesus said: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. --Matthew 5:9

Mohammed said: Fighting is ordained for you, even though it be hateful to you; but it may well be that you hate a thing the while it is good for you... Fight, then, in God's cause. -- Koran 2:216, 2:244

Jesus said: Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. --Matthew 26:52

Mohammed said: And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out... slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers. --Koran 2:191

_____________________________________

Jesus said: But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. --Matthew 5:39

Mohammed said: Thus, if anyone commits aggression against you, attack him just as he has attacked you. --Koran 2:194

_____________________________________

Jesus said: If any one is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if any one slays with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints. --Revelation 13:10

Mohammed said: Slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush. --Koran 9:5

_____________________________________

Jesus said: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another... He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. --John 13:34, 1John 4:8

Mohammed said: So you did not slay them, but it was Allah Who slew them, and you did not smite when you smote (the enemy), but it was Allah Who smote. --Koran 8:17

_____________________________________

Jesus said: Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. --Matthew 5:11-12

Mohammed said: And apostles before you were certainly mocked at, but I gave respite to those who disbelieved, then I destroyed them. --Koran 13:32

_____________________________________

Jesus said: But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. --Matthew 5:44

Mohammed said: And kill them (who persecute you)... for persecution is worse than killing. --Koran 2:191

_____________________________________

Jesus said: Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' --Luke 10:8-9

Mohammed said: And there is not a town but We will destroy it before the day of resurrection or chastise it with a severe chastisement; this is written in the Divine ordinance. --Koran 17:58

_____________________________________

Jesus said: But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.' --Luke 10:10-11

Mohammed said: And when We wish to destroy a town, We send Our commandment to the people of it who lead easy lives, but they transgress therein; thus the word proves true against it, so We destroy it with utter destruction. --Koran 17:16

_____________________________________

Jesus said: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. --John 14:27

Oh my, the Peace of Islam just melts one heart and leaves it all soft and gooey ,doesn't it?
And you didn't even put in the parts where they tell how to make IED's out of their children.

While we're picking and choosing various verses out of context, try these on for size:

Jesus said:
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
(Matthew 10:34; New International Version)

Jesus also said:
"But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."

The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied.
(Luke 22:36-38; New International Version)

Camo,
You're absolutely right. For out-of-context verses, the ones you chose were the MOST out-of-context.

You know as well as I do that when Jesus says he came to bring a "sword", he was not referring to a literal sword (as Mohammed was). He was referring to the choice that people must make between belief or unbelief. Some people will believe in him while others will not (even members of one's own family).

You also know that Jesus was being somewhat sarcastic when he said that he must be numbered among the transgressors. He told his disciples to arm themselves with swords not in order to fight, but in order that prophecy would be literally fulfilled.

If you think the verses I have chosen are out-of-context, I would be interested know which ones, and why.

OK, I have the context in the Koran for some of the verses that Hawkeye used in Sura 2.

"And fight for the cause of God against those who fight against you: but commit not the injustice of attacking them first: God loveth not such injustice: And kill them wherever ye find them, and eject them from whatever place they have ejected you; for civil discord is worse than carnage: yet attack them not at the sacred Mosque, unless they attack you therein; but if they attack you slay them. Such the reward of the infidels.

But if they desist, then verily God is gracious, merciful.

Fight therefore against them until there be no more civil discord, and the only worship be that of God: but if they disist, then let there be no hostility, save against the wicked.

The sacred month and the sacred precincts are under the safeguard of reprisals: whoever offerth violence to you, offer ye violence to him, and fear God, and know that God is with those who fear him."

As Hawkeye has shown, the words of Jesus and the words of Mohammad speak for themselves.

Hawkeye®:
First, realize that I was only trying to make a point. Verses can (and are) taken out of context all the time, to suit various agendas. This is done with the Bible, too. You know this as well as I do, I'm sure. In any case, check out a few different verses from the Qur'an...

"Lo! Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans - whoever believeth in God and the Last Day and doeth right - surely their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve" - Qur'an 2:62

Prohibitions on Terrorism, and Exhortations to Living with Mercy, Compassion and Patience in the Qur'an:

Whosoever kills an innocent human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. (5:32)

Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and in the race for a garden wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous- (the righteous are) those who spend whether in prosperity or adversity, who restrain anger and who pardon all people. For God loves those who do good. (3:133 –134)

Invite all to the way of your God with wisdom and beautiful preaching. And argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious. For your God knows best who have strayed from his path and who receive guidance. And if you do respond to an attack, respond no worse than they did. But if you show patience, that is indeed the best course. Be patient- for your patience is from God...Indeed, God is with those who restrain themselves and those who do good. (16:125-128)

O You who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be against rich or poor, for God can best protect both. Follow not the cravings of your hearts, lest you swerve, and if you distort justice or decline to do justice, verily God is well acquainted with all that you do. (4:135)

To those who persevere in doing good is a reward more than in measure. No darkness nor shame shall cover their faces. They are companions of the garden where they will live forever. But those who have earned evil will have a reward like evil. Humiliation will cover their faces. They will have no defender from God. (10:26-27)

The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree), but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from God, for God does not love those who do wrong. But indeed if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong done to them, against such there is no cause of blame. The blame is only against those who oppress men with wrongdoing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice, for such there will be a penalty grievous. (42:40-43)

FWIW, when Islamic extremists ("Islamofascists", if you prefer) use certain select verses from the Qur'an in an attempt to justify their heinous actions, I believe we are well within our rights (duty, even!) to crush them and their organizations most thoroughly; I just DO NOT believe in painting an entire group of humanity with a "broad brush"...it's narrow-minded, and the farthest thing imaginable from Christ-like.

seriously Hawkeye, you are starting to sound like a broken record.

I'm sure not many pple will deny that certain paragraphs in the Koran advocates violence. I myself tend to go a step further and say that it's more than a few sporadic phrases here and there but let's step back for a second and see what Christians in this country are doing.

The so-called Christian movement in this country is the biggest pile of dog poop that can be found anywhere in America. The most recent example: Jesus camp.

Apparently Jesus camp takes its inspiration from, *gasp*, Palestinian schools that teach kids to wage war against Israel! Wow!

Apparently Christian leaders in this country are engaging in a race with Islamic nuts in the Midde East to out fanatacize each other. There is even a scene of kids praying for Geroge W.Bush. Now, remind me again, why did Muslims around the world get the impression that America is waging a holy war?

Christianity deserves better than to be represented by some fat woman pretending to be a god-fearing pastor trying to brainwash kids to embrace small-mindedness.

Camo,
Perhaps you are correct that we should not stereotype "an entire group of humanity" as you put it.

But why is that these Wahabi schools seem to teach their children only the kind of verses I quoted? We will be fighting the Islamofascists for the rest of our lives, and our children will be fighting them too.

If there are a billion Muslims in the world, I estimate that more than half have been, or are now being trained to hate Christians and Jews.

And what of Sharia Law? It is completely incompatible with democracy. Those who believe in Sharia Law want to destroy democracy wherever it exists and replace it with Sharia.

How do we get good Muslims to give up Sharia, accept democracy and stop teaching their children bigotry and hatred? That's a rhetorical question, but if you have an answer I'm "all ears".

The truth hurts, doesn't it Hawkeye? I'm sorry it had to be me to inform you of the awful truth. And it is hilarious that you would accuse me of bigotry.

The fact of the matter is, bigotry & ignorance live in the South, among the vast majority of the so-called evangelical crowd in the Southern states.

Hawkeye -

Good one...and you have captured the crux of what Islam stands for. I have read much (not all) of both the Qur'an and the Bible, and I find that the Bible does use symbolism and metaphor much more in its usage of the words "sword" and "fight."

I have yet to find "Love thy enemy" or "Turn the other cheek" in the Qur'an. Perhaps your visiting Moonbats can help me here?

west coast lib,

I saw the 20/20 (or whatever) special of that Christian bunch and they made me embarrassed.... never embarrassed to be a Christian, but embarrassed that people like that can hitch their wagon to our star. The fact is that although they very well may be Christians, and they're probably morally upstanding, they're misrepresenting the Christiainity.

That said, this TV special is an excuse for you to reject Christ. So be it, but you haven't exactly been a force of persuasion for anything good on this blog.
