Looney Liberal of the Week: Bill Keller

NEW YORK, NY -- This week's award goes to... well you guessed it, Bill Keller, Executive Editor of the New York Times. You've all heard the story or read about it, so I won't bore you with the details of how this arrogant, dangerous fanatic, in his hatred of the Bush administration decided to assume the responsibilities of the President by declassifying the formerly top secret Terrorist Finance Tracking Program.

And Bill Keller doesn't earn this award lightly. He faced stiff competition this week from five Supreme Court judges and their decision on the Hamdan case. Unless we get a loonier lib next week, those judges may be next week's retroactive award winners!

Calls for the prosecution of Keller and/or the New York Times have been scorching the Internet. Although George W. Bush sounded angry in his denunciation of this classified program being leaked, the silence from the administration since then has been deafening. Keller and the NYT have clearly violated the Espionage Act of 1917 and other laws. I have quoted Section 798 of Title 18 of the Espionage Act of 1917 here for your edification...

§798. Disclosure of Classified Information.

(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully communicates, furnishes, transmits, or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person, or publishes, or uses in any manner prejudicial to the safety or interest of the United States or for the benefit of any foreign government to the detriment of the United States any classified information—

(1) concerning the nature, preparation, or use of any code, cipher, or cryptographic system of the United States or any foreign government; or

(2) concerning the design, construction, use, maintenance, or repair of any device, apparatus, or appliance used or prepared or planned for use by the United States or any foreign government for cryptographic or communication intelligence purposes; or

(3) concerning the communication intelligence activities of the United States or any foreign government; or

(4) obtained by the processes of communication intelligence from the communications of any foreign government, knowing the same to have been obtained by such processes—

Shall be fined not more than $10,000 or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

(b) As used in this subsection (a) of this section—

The term “classified information” means information which, at the time of a violation of this section, is, for reasons of national security, specifically designated by a United States Government Agency for limited or restricted dissemination or distribution;

The terms “code,” “cipher,” and “cryptographic system” include in their meanings, in addition to their usual meanings, any method of secret writing and any mechanical or electrical device or method used for the purpose of disguising or concealing the contents, significance, or meanings of communications;

The term “foreign government” includes in its meaning any person or persons acting or purporting to act for or on behalf of any faction, party, department, agency, bureau, or military force of or within a foreign country, or for or on behalf of any government or any person or persons purporting to act as a government within a foreign country, whether or not such government is recognized by the United States;

The term “communication intelligence” means all procedures and methods used in the interception of communications and the obtaining of information from such communications by other than the intended recipients;

The term “unauthorized person” means any person who, or agency which, is not authorized to receive information of the categories set forth in subsection (a) of this section, by the President, or by the head of a department or agency of the United States Government which is expressly designated by the President to engage in communication intelligence activities for the United States.

I agree with you Hawkeye, they should use the 1917 espionage act. I have already heard some looney libs claim that "--1917 was a LONG time ago--", as if that means it shouldn't be used today.

My responce would be, how long ago was the Constitution radified, and should "it" not be used because, that was a LONGER time ago?

You can NEVER win with a lib. I found it very interesting that several criminal defense attorney's on Fox News, took the side against Rush Limbaugh, and said he should have known better than to have Viagra! These same people would, (and do), defend the most heineous (sp) criminals and terrorists, but through away the Constitution if it helps a Conservative or Republican.

I think the best thing is to call Keller before Congress and make him answer before the American people, and if he doesn't then put him in jail in the "leaker's" place!

Let's see how the lib Senator's kiss up to him in the hearings.

My bet would be, don't watch it on a full stomach!

One has to wonder why the NY Times, LA Times, and the ENTIRE MSM, have ignored the story at this link:

I think it is is news that ALL citizens who have children should know about, and is of much more interest than MOST of the Bush bashing story's they thrive on.

RAM,
Amen... you can NEVER win with a lib...

You CANNOT reveal the name of CIA agent, which is classified information, but you CAN reveal an entire classified program (or three)!

You CANNOT say "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, but you MUST make sure that terrorist prisoners have their Koran and eat only meals that comply with their religious traditions.

We CANNOT say that Democrats are un-Patriotic because they disagree with the Republican administration. Yet, they are so Patriotic that they will NOT stand up for the flag and what it represents.

HUH?? I don't get it.

For once ,I don't agree with you ,Hawkeye. This smug,smirking evil scum is way too far out there to just be called a Liberal Looney. He needs to be called words I can't use here.
Our President has far greater things to worry about than bringing carges against this slimy snake ,I think that is just what the dims are hoping Dubya will do . They would.
It would just bog down the whole war effort and the good things the administration is trying to do. It would also mess up some of the bad things, like the Immagration Bill,but that's another Looney issue, altogether. I'm afraid you are going to have to add a catagory for really evil backstabbers like "Sold-His-Soul" Keller.
What is "pottage " anyway?

Thanks for sharing the text, Hawk. There are avenues for taking care of the leakers, I didn't know the exact law for prosecuting the press. The NYT has nailed it on a couple of counts IMO. Take 'em to the mat!

Actually the libs don't care about the version of the constitution that we see in print. To them, it is a "living" document whose meaning changes with the wind.

Being overly distrusting of the Gubmint in all it's forms, I can't say that the press isn't free to print anything but what the government tells it is OK, but the leakers of this info should be prosecuted, for sure.

It is a shame that a free press can damage the war effort so easily (remember Vietnam?)but it is a major part of the freedom that is America. An informed electorate would help stem their evil tide, but I guess that is asking too much, eh?

Barb,
Wow! More than just "Looney", eh? I should start a "Sold-His-Soul" of the Week Award? Hmmm. I don't think so. You don't get one of those every week, now do you?

Marge,
You can't look at it as "prosecuting the press". We need to prosecute traitors who knowingly disregard the laws of the United States and threaten the welfare of average Americans. Just because they are press makes them no different than Ethel and Julius Rosenberg... they are criminals, plain and simple.

Rick,
You're right about that. They have a Constitution that is "living" in their minds... and it is not the one we know of on paper. It sort of goes with their opinions of themselves. They are legend in their own minds.

Beerme,
Theoretically they can print anything they want to, but in practice you know that can't be true. If nothing else, they can't call a black person the "N" word and get away with it. Why is it no less different for state secrets? And we're not talking about humiliating someone here... we're talking about lives at risk.

These newspapers, and especially people like Keller are children. They are testing their boundaries. They will go as far as they can until they get a whoopin', and boy do they need one now!
