Stop The Treason & Sedition

I'm angry. I'm angry at The New York Times and at Bill Keller, the Times' executive editor. This is the second time that the NYT has disclosed a secret anti-terror program, and both times they were asked not to publish those stories by senior administration officials. I'm so angry, I wrote a letter to Alberto Gonzales and e-mailed it to... AskDOJ@usdoj.gov ...an address I found at the U.S. Dept. of Justice website.

My letter follows. If you're angry too, please feel free to copy it, change the subject, or modify the text, and send it along to Mr. Gonzales or anyone else you think might be appropriate.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20530-0001

Subject: Stop The Treason & Sedition

Dear Mr. Gonzales,

I recognize that the U.S. Constitution guarantees the Freedom of Speech under the First Amendment. Many of us make use of that freedom every day by posting our opinions on the internet, writing a letter to the editor, joining a protest march, or calling a radio talk show program. However, the Constitution does NOT guarantee the freedom to commit acts of treason and sedition against the United States of America during a time of war. The Constitution does NOT guarantee the right of individuals or organizations to endanger the public welfare. The Constitution DOES in fact, mandate that the government provide for the "common defense".

Therefore, since the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, et. al. have seen fit to ABUSE their Freedom of Speech by committing treasonous and seditious acts through the unwarranted disclosure of classified government information such as the CIA-Treasury Terrorist Financial Tracking Program, the NSA Terrorist Surveillance Program, and the NSA Telephone Records Database Program, it is clear that the welfare of American citizens has been threatened, both at home and abroad.

We are fighting a war. Lives are at stake. The enemy must be defeated. In his address to a joint session of Congress on September 20, 2001 President Bush said...

"We will direct every resource at our command -- every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war -- to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network."

It should come as no surprise then that the President is doing exactly what he promised. In the same speech President Bush also gave an ultimatum to foreign powers, but it applies no less to domestic organizations...

"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

I recognize that you cannot stop a newspaper from printing almost anything. That would be a violation of Free Speech. But you CAN arrest a traitor. You CAN arrest those who authorize the disclosure of classified government information. You CAN prosecute those who reveal classified information.

America must be protected against ALL enemies, both foreign and domestic. Since I have directed this E-mail to "AskDOJ", here are my questions... What are you doing to stop this shameless travesty? What are you doing to provide for the "common defense"?

Sincerely,

My Name
Town & State

Hawkeye:
I started raising the victory fist in the air when I heard President Bush denouncing the seditionists and treasonists today - he was DEAD on. These people are despicable, hypocritical enemies of the state. They bend over backwords to make ado about "outing" Valerie Plame and then disclose our HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL anti-terrorism tactics as they LIE to the American people and say its a "power grab". I am active duty US Army and a proud OIF veteran, and I am fuming mad at the NYT and its wicked, anti-American yellow journalism. God Bless you for sending traffic to the USDA's office an for letting our government know how we feel. I am personally for a boycott on the NYT. they are notorious for printing disinformation that hurts the president and the US military on page one and then apologizing days later on page 16. They are not worthy of the freedom of the press they so glibly invoke. Keep fighting the good fight my friend!
Johnny

You all probably get tired of my harking back to WW11 ,but there are so many similarities and such gigantic differences . The whole free world acted togeter as one to defeat Germany and Japan . We could all imagine what would happen if we didn't win.
This time we have our own CIA, MSM and elected members of our governing bodies being openly and unashamedly treasonous.
Don't they realize how much more horrible it would be to live under Muslim Rule ,than the Germans ?
Do they think they can have a 'do-over' if they can just defeat the Republicans? How do they think they are going to gather intelligence? They have already cut off their noses....

Hawkeye, I couldn't have said it better myself. I've written both the NYT and Attorney General Gonzales. Keller and the editors at the NYT need to be prosecuted...and at the very minimum the partisan liberal toadie in the Defense Department needs to be ferreted out and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This kind of sedition cannot be allowed to stand, otherwise we'll see the fourth estate become even more emboldened to think it's the fourth branch of government as it pursues its fifth column efforts to undermine the Bush Administration during a time of war.

I agree, they should be prosecuted for treason.

The penalty for that is death...

I am a bit unhappy with President Bush for not going after these guys HARD! The sources for such stories must be revealed and the leakers prosecuted, absolutely!

The leakers of these stories should be prosecuted, not the NYT. I find none of these characters to be more revolting than the "partisan liberal toadie in the Defense Department" (thanks, Hank)who leaks this info.

Ditto, ditto, ditto! You should also send a hard copy snail mail. Snail mail is given more weight than email.

Keep fightin' the good fight, Hawk!

To All,
Thanks for your comments and kind words.

Johnny Proctor,
Thank you sir for your service... and thank Amy for the great work she's doing at her blog.

beerme: You are right,---and also wrong.

The leakers should be indicted, or at least called before Congress to answer questions.

The reason I say you are BOTH right and wrong is, the NY Times got LEAKED to, and then LEAKED to EVERYONE else!

Kind of like if I whisper "fire" in a theater to a guy with a bullhorn who then yells it.

That may not be a good analogy but, the NY Times was under no obligation to the leaker to print it for the world, (and our enemy's to see), and is AT LEAST as responsible as the traitorus leaker!

Are you conservatives that retarded? Do you honestly think that Al-Qaeda doesn't already know that the US, along with prob tons of other nations, are vigorously tracking their money trail?

As far as I am concerned, the NY Times, LA Times and WSJ (yes, conservative leaning paper) simply reported a few facts that the general public AND the crazy jihadists already know, i.e. the US is going after the dirty money.

You wanna be mad? why not turn yr anger towards the Saudi royal family, long time buddies of yr beloved nincompoop president, who still refuse to clamp down on financing towards the Islamic schools, which incidentally, are the factories that churn out those crazy terrorists?

Hawkeye, I can always rely on you when I am itchy to read some hypocrisy on the internet.

WCL,
Thanks for stopping by. I can always rely on you when I'm itchy to have somebody launch ad hominem attacks at me or my friends or my President. You're also good for saying things that are not well thought out.

Let's face it. It wasn't me that asked the NYT to NOT print the story... It was the administration, the Treasury Secretary, the bi-partisan heads of the 9/11 Commission, and even JOHN MURTHA for God's sake!

So let's assume that Hillary gets elected (Oh, what an awful thought). How is she going to run a War on Terror when the NYT, LAT, WSJ and USA Today have exposed all of her best secret weapons? Or is she just going to stop fighting terrorism and take up the saxophone? Maybe she wants to go back to the good old days of the Taliban, US embassy bombings, attacks on US warships, and airplanes flying into our tallest buildings?

How in the world is this even any kind of anti-terrorism "weapon" when the entire public ALREADY KNOWS that the United States has been actively tracking terrorist dollars since 9/11????

You mean to tell me that before the papers published the story you did not know that the US and its allies are using a range of different methods to track down the money???

Yr President is nothing but a moron thru and thru. Only ignorant hicks in this country are dumb enough to buy into his rhetoric.

Lastly, I repeat that if Bush wanted to get tough on terrorist funding, he would lay the smackdown on the Saudi royal family, instead of holding hands affectionately with them like a bunch of gay boys when they visit the ranch.

WCL,
Sure, I had some "vague" idea that the US was tracking financial data of terrorists, but I didn't know "specifically" that it was through an organization known as SWIFT headquartered in Belgium! The terrorists don't need to know those facts.

I do agree with you that we should "lay the smackdown on the Saudi royal family". Let the chips fall where they may. We really don't need their oil. No, REALLY! You heard me right... we DON'T need their oil. I won't get into the details here, but we have access to so much clean energy, it boggles the mind that this renewable energy source has not yet been tapped.

Affectionately yours,
A dumb ignorant hick who supports a moronic President...

P.S.-- And it's a "CHEAP" source of clean, renewable energy!

Bush has personally said in public more than a dozen times that the US is actively using a wide range of sophisticated methods to track terrorist funding.

What the hell is the matter with you? Do you honestly think that the terrorists are taking any chances by transferring money thru Paypal or writing cheaques to each other? It doesn't matter if it's SWIFT or any other program, whether it is located in Belgium or the Himalayas. If I had to guess, these guys are prob dealing in cash transfers when they have to funnel money overseas.

These guys are wise to our strategies which is why nearly 5 years later, the world's most powerful military force is still nowhere near eliminating, what essentially is, no more than a band of rogue bandits.

Good luck sticking by yr ass clown president. Might wanna give him some tips about raising kids. Talking about family values while having 2 kids getting in trouble with the law isn't exactly a pretty sight.

WCL,
Now you are starting to scare me. Either you are really that dumb, or you are another Howie.

When Bill Keller was asked to not publish the story by the administration, the Treasury Secretary, the bi-partisan heads of the 9/11 Commission, and by no less than John Murtha, what do you think the reason was?? They didn't want it exposed because it was a "successful" program (and that's a quote). If it was "successful", that means it was producing results... comprende? We were getting valuable info from a program that has now been compromised.

And don't be a fool. Do you really think that Osama sends out couriers with tens of thousands of dollars? Would you? Wire transfers of big sums are still going to happen because it's not so easy to get through Customs with big wads of cash.

In my best Mark Levin impression... "Get off my blog ya BIG DOPE!"

Let me make it clear that I personally do not think that the NY Times should have published that article. However, it is clear that conservatives have deliberately over-blown the consequences of publishing that piece.

And give me a break. Do you honestly think that the terrorists are actually GOING THRU CUSTOMS???? any idiot who is in trouble with the law knows better than to go thru customs, let alone the most wanted criminals in the world.

heck, we know that Iran and prob Syria is aiding the militias and Sunni insurgents in Iraq by providing cash and weapons. Do you think the money and the guns are going thru customs???

wake up bonehead! George Bush is the one who is obstructing the war on terrorism thru his cozy and somewhat gay-ish relationship with the Saudi leaders. Go read the MSNBC article on how Saudi schools are preaching hatred against Christians and Muslims.

You just simply do not to come to terms with the fact that yr beloved President refuses to get serious about terrorism and prefers to play politics with national security. Either that, or you're a bloody moron.
