President Bush Invites Criticism

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President George W. Bush today announced that he would be heading an investigation to find out "what went right and what went wrong" with the response to Hurricane Katrina. Bush said, "We still live in an unsettled world. We want to make sure we can respond properly if there is a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction) attack, or another major storm." The President continued by saying, "Bureaucracy is not going to stand in the way of getting the job done for the people".

Mr. Bush stated that this investigation would provide an opportunity to clarify the roles that local, state and federal governments play in emergency response to crisis situations. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin(D) and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco(D) had no comment on the President's remarks.

President Bush further went on to say that he would welcome any criticism of the federal role in the response to Hurricane Katrina at public hearings. However, Mr. Bush qualified his statement by saying that only those who actually responded to the emergency by volunteering, or by performing emergency response services would be allowed to offer criticism. "I think it's only fair", said the President, "that we should get the input from those people who actually DID something. Anyone can sit on their butts, watch TV, and play Monday morning quarterback.... We need input from the people on the ground, from the people who drove trucks, from the people who piloted boats, from the people in the helicopters, from the military, and from the people doing charity work... We need input ONLY from the people who actually have a RIGHT to criticize".

Liberal Democrats immediately reacted to the President's comments with allegations of discrimination. The ACLU said it would be happy to represent those Liberals whose "right to mud-slinging" had been violated.

Katrina and Recovery 2.0
At first, we were at a loss of what to say about how technology can help in post-Katrina relief efforts.

Get your facts straight Hawkeye®. President Bush said he was "leading" an investigation (not "heading" and investigation).

C'mon... Bush is a LEADER. Anybody can be "a head". A pothead, a dopehead... why heck, even pimples and lettuce have "heads". No leadership there.

Catch my drift?

Hawkster,
these computer generated spam are getting annoying. I added the "word verification" to try to help. No anonymous comment either.
But on a better point, THANKS as always!
Regards to you,
Libby

Does he invite it, or does it just "crash the Party"?

Libby Gone™:
I just deleted another "spam" comment at my blog...I'm thinking of activating that word verification option, too.

I was tempted to delete the anonymous comment, but it said I have a "Fabulous blog!"... so I left it up. (I'm a glutton for praise).

blogmaniac,
I'm with ya... but in the spirit of the NY Times I will not issue a correction, or if I do issue a correction it will be in very tiny print on a totally unrelated thread that's about 2 months old so no one will notice it.

You have a FABULOUS blog! I just don't see any pictures of women in various items of attire. Mrs. Gone didn't appreciate that spammer so to keep the peace, Word Verification was activated.

Uh-oh! As someone with his boots in the water (as well as his lucky red cup), Sean Penn may just feel that he has a say in this inquiry. (And he has photographic proof of his heroic endeavors.)

Could we surmise that he was the wrong man in the wrong boat at the wrong time?

I caught the last 3 minutes of Oprah yesterday. And you'll NEVER guess who was there in the 'Dome with her.

That's right! It was Jesse! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Who's Sean Penn?

Marge,
Sean Penn is an illegitimate child that Sean Connery had once when visiting Penn State... hence the name.

Libby Gone™,
For many episodes as 007, Sean Connery had the "Albert Broccoli" persona... if you know what I mean.
