Diversity Must Die

SATIRE MODE OFF -- In the early 1900's, a vast wave of immigration broke upon the shores of the United States of America. It was not quite a "tsunami", which as the term would suggest, might have dealt a lethal blow to the existing populace. In fact, it was not even a tidal wave. Rather, it was more like a tidal surge. Something to be concerned about. Something to watch closely. Perhaps even, something to dread.

Why? Because a massive swell in the volume of foreign immigrants can have unforeseen consequences on the native population. But those consequences can be positive as well as negative. Immigrants bring exposure to new cultures, new foods, new ideas, new words, strange names, and ancient traditions. Such exposure is not to be feared... although it often has been.

In my own family, I am a third generation descendant of immigrants. My family is of Polish ancestry. My grandparents came to this country during that wave of immigration that washed ashore in the early 1900's. They settled in Chicago, Illinois which, as you may already know, is home to more Polish people than any other city in the world except Warsaw, Poland.

At one point, their presence was feared. Their home became a target for vegetables, stones and graffiti. They were viewed as different, strange and 'foreign'. But that only made them feel that it was more important for them to 'fit in'. My father and his siblings grew up with English as their first language and Polish as their second. They went to school, made friends, shined shoes, played in bands, and fought in WWII. They fought in North Africa, in Italy, and in southern France. They fought on the seas in a submarine. They fought in the Pacific on the Burma Road.

They joined the great 'Melting Pot' that is America. Yes, they had a heritage that was different from others. But their goal was assimilation. To be part of America. Not to be different... but to 'fit in'. Their goal was to find commonality, kinship, and brotherhood. They wanted to be as American as 'apple pie'. And they succeeded. They got their citizenship the old-fashioned way... they earned it.

Which brings me to my great concern. That is, that today we celebrate 'DIVERSITY' rather than assimilation. We glorify 'difference' rather than 'unity'. People are no longer expected to 'fit in'. They can be as different as they want to be.... and they are.

They come with different religions, different cultures, strange names and ancient traditions. But rather than strive to 'fit in', they remain content to be different. Our common American culture, our media, and our laws bring absolutely no pressure to bear on immigrants to join the 'melting pot'.

And so, if Muslim tradition suggests that all non-Muslims are infidels and dogs, worthy of death... I guess that's OK, in the name of 'diversity'. If Mexican illegals demand a drivers license, and a Social Security card, and welfare benefits... I guess that's OK, in the name of 'diversity'.

Today we're fighting the 'War On Terror'. It's another 'ism' just like fascism or communism... it's "Terror-ISM". So why don't we see today's immigrants volunteering for duty the way my family did during WWII? Is it because we just don't expect them to? A culture of low expectations yields low results. We expect nothing... and we are getting just what we expect.

We need to start expecting something from immigrants... like loyalty, like patriotism, like citizenship, like assimilation. They can be proud of their heritage, but they need to become AMERICANS. They need to blend in, to melt in, to fit in, to assimilate. We don't need diversity... we need UNITY!

Actually, in today's context, "diversity" is often a euphemism for perversity...

Hawkster,
Most Compelling! Excellent! My thoughts eggs sacked lee.
yea my ancestors got livery in a cattle boat back in 1881 from Nort Europe. Henry Ford would actually teach immigrants english and assimilation, then would hold a ceremony where the new Americans would walk up to a giant melting pot, disappear behind it, exchange their old world attire for "modern American garb" and reappear on the other side! and they loved it! they were so PROUD to become Americans. Think that would fly today?
The verse of the day is always appreciated.

Libby Gone™,
Thanks for the kind words. Every once in awhile I just have to break from the satire to let out my true feelings. Do I think it would fly today?... yeah maybe, but only if the country was more united and the MSM was not a mere tool of the LLL (Looney Left-wing Liberals).

As Lawrence Welk would say, "Wunnerful, wunnerful". Well said, Hawkeye.

Did you know that the polka is actually a Czech creation, but that the Poles are responsible for the polonaise, a quite refined dance?
(I still like to polka though.)

Kajun,
Good points all. It's not really that difficult to blend in if you just try. We Americans seem to have an amazing affinity for those that try.
